Next fall, MCIS will provide a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) that will align with the legislative requirement that all students create a transition to postsecondary education and employment plan. The PLP will extract information from the MCIS portfolio fields and place them into an easy-to-read report. Click here to view the draft form. See the MCIS Personal Learning Plan. Read Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.125 on the Revisor website.
Learning Styles
Activity and Survey
To help schools comply with requirements in the new statute, MCIS is
offering an activity to help students identify their personal learning style. The MCIS Online Curriculum is found in the "Tools for Counselors
and Teachers" section of MCIS and is now also available as a direct link for easier
access for staff and students. Offered in one class period, the activity
includes PowerPoint slides, detailed implementation instructions, and
additional strategies for linking learning styles to the workplace. Students
identify their learning styles through a survey and then discuss study
strategies that can help them learn best, including note-taking strategies.Where to Find the Learning Styles Activity and Survey
For Counselors and Teachers: Click on Tools
for Counselors & Teachers in the footer section of the MCIS homepage. Next,
click Classroom Activities and then Learning Activities.
For Students: The Learning Styles Survey and
Study Tips Worksheet are available for students in MCIS. Click on Tools for
Users in the footer section of the MCIS homepage. Next, click Support Materials
and then Assessment Tools. Both can be saved in the student's portfolio.
The survey is fillable and will calculate a student’s score. The survey can
then be stored in the student’s files and links. A student could also record
their findings in the Standardized Test section of the Resume Creator.
