The Southern Minnesota Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a network of community and academic partners committed to meeting the workforce needs of health professionals in greater Minnesota. Their mission is to support education and clinical training for the region's current and future health care workforce. Since it was established in 2004 through a collaborative effort between the University of Minnesota and Rice Memorial Hospital, the Southern Minnesota AHEC has developed University on the Prairie, assisted health professionals in finding clinical training in the area, helped develop the Rice Regional Dental clinic, and introduced thousands of students to a variety of health careers through classroom presentations and career fairs.
