Project SEARCH: A Transition High School Model

A group of education, service agency and business staff have been working for over a year to develop a “transition high school.”  The program provides students the opportunity to transition from high school to community employment by working and learning at Avera Marshall Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the school year. During the program, students will participate in a variety of 8-10 week internship rotations and learn critical employment skills.

The program is based on a successful, international model called “Project SEARCH" which has over 200 host sites designed to assist youth with disabilities reach their goals of competitive community employment. Avera Marshall has generously offered to be the host business partner for the 2013-14 school year.  United Way of Southwest Minnesota, the Minnesota West Carl Perkins Consortium, and the SW/WC Service Cooperative have partnered to help offset the program's startup costs.

The program is for students in a 30-45 mile radius of Marshall. Students living outside the 45 mile radius are also eligible to participate, but alternative transportation and living arrangements would need to be considered.
