Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act
On July 31, 2018, President Trump signed legislation creating the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, Perkins V. The Perkins Act, H.R. 2353 (115), which has been considered for reauthorization since 2012, commits between $1.2 billion and 1.3 billion over the next 6 years. The law goes into effect on July 1, 2019. The new law touts less federal oversight, more state control for setting CTE goals and encourages states to pass the bulk of funds to local districts.
